Description
Full Moon setting near the Columbia Sailing Club on 2/11/2017, just before sunrise, on Lake Murray, SC. The grey and pink sky is a natural phenomenon that happens daily at sunrise and sunset, and is known as the Belt of Venus. The grey band just above the trees is the shadow of Earth being cast on our atmosphere. The pinkish glow is the light of the sun (still slightly below the horizon behind me) being reflected by the dome of our atmosphere. This event happens daily(and it's free) at sunrise and sunset and lasts only about 20 minutes. The colors are more pronounced in the opposite direction of the sunrise and sunset.
