Erected in 1856 by the State of South Carolina to honor the heroism of South Carolina's Palmetto Regiment during the Mexican War. The Palmetto Regiment is the oldest monument on the State House grounds. The Sculptor was Christopher Werner of Charleston, SC. I took this photo on 11-18-2011.

His professions have included, the U.S. Army (serving in Germany), licensed professional land surveyor, sales/customer service rep, and right-of-way agent with the SCDOT. In addition to photography, his hobbies include astronomy and landscape gardening. His venture into serious photography began in 2009 at age 60.
