Description
The South Carolina Rural Arts Project (S.C.R.A.P.) is a conscious effort led by Orangeburg, South Carolina artist, Herman Keith, to energize and revitalize rural towns and communities through art by transforming public spaces collectively with local individuals, institutions, and organizations.
In S.C.R.A.P.’s pilot project, located on North Acline Street next to Joe’s Barbershop, a public mural created by Herman Keith and students from the Lake City Community has been installed for it’s ArtFields debut! The mural, entitled From This Moment Forward, is intended to warm our souls, just as quilts warm the body. Inspired by the quilt designs of the Gee’s Bend Quilters in Gee’s Bend Alabama, the design aims to visually embrace the oneness of our past, present, and future with love and hope.
In a true community-wide effort, this installation of S.C.R.A.P. was made possible by The Lake City Beautification Committee, Lake City Community Foundation, Lake City Concert Series, The City of Lake City, and ArtFields.
